How can landlords improve their EPC rating?

With just weeks until April 1st, the countdown is on until the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rates required at rental properties change. Now is a perfect time for landlords and property managers to review how they can improve their EPC ratings.

Recent government legislation dictates that all rental properties must meet energy efficiency standards or face hefty fines – so knowing how to bring your homes up to standard could save you both money and hassle. In this blog post, we’ll provide you with an overview of the upcoming changes, explain what an EPC involves, recommend measures that can help boost your rating and answer any frequently asked questions about the requirements.

EPC Rates explained.

EPC rates refer to the cost savings or saving on energy consumption that a building landlord can expect to achieve as a result of implementing energy-efficient upgrades

The EPC rating also depends on the amount of energy used per m2 and the level of carbon dioxide emissions given in tonnes per year. This then gives a numerical grade between 1 and 100 and a letter grade from A to G.

From 0 (A band) to 150 (G band).

EPC Rates are Changing.

From April 2023 commercial landlords must have an EPC rating of at least a grade E in order to renew the lease contract.

From April 2027, it will increase to a grade C.

By 2030 you will have to have a grade B rating to let your property.

It is likely you are going to need to upgrade your building’s energy supply to a greener and more efficient supplier.
